The
PS-150 PocketScope® has been designed to
be easy to use. Follow these steps to begin using
yours right
away.
|
|
Step 1. Select a light source
Your PS-150 PocketScope® can
be used with a wide variety of light sources. Good light sources indoors
include a bright window,
overhead fluorescent light panels, or a bare frosted light bulb (viewed
from five feet or less). A blue sky, a bright white cloud, both sunlit
sand and concrete work very well outdoors. CAUTION: DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY
AT THE SUN - YOU MAY CAUSE EYE DAMAGE! |
|
| |
Step 2. Align
the Aperture
Turn
the PS-150 upside down and line up the arrow
on the Aperture Disk with the arrow on
the base of the PS-150. This aligns the aperture
to illuminate your slide. (This is a good general
purpose aperture. You'll use the other apertures
later for special lighting conditions.) |
|
 |
| |
Step 3. Open
the Cover
Turn the
PS-150 face up. Using your thumb and index finger,
squeeze the recessed catches
on the sides of the PS-150 and lift
open the cover with your other hand. |
|
 |
| |
Step 4. Load
a slide
Lay a slide,
face-up, into the Slide GuideTM, then gently
push it against the end nearest
the hinge until it snaps into place under the
retaining clips. |
|
 |
| |
Step 5. Position
the slide
Move
the Slide Guide to center the specimen over the
stage aperture. If the cover glass
is far from the center of the slide you may
not be able to center the specimen over the
stage aperture. If you have this problem remove
the slide, turn it around so the label is at
the other end, and snap it into the Slide Guide
again. It may be easier to center in this position.
Lock the Slide Guide in place by turning the
Lock Lever clockwise. Close the cover. |
|
 |
| |
Step 6. View
the slide
If you wear
glasses, remove them and put them in a safe place.
It is important to get your
eye close to the lens to get a wide field of
view. (The remarkable PS-150 lens will allow
you to obtain a clear focus even if you are
nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism.)
Face
the light source and look at the light. Hold
the PocketScope lens up to your eye and
sight through it at the light, as if you were
using a camera viewfinder. Rest the PS-150
on your eyebrow and cheekbone to get your eye
as close as possible to the lens. You should
see a bright circle.
Turn the Focus Wheel to
get the clearest image. |
|

|
| |
Step 7. Explore the slide
Release some pressure from the Lock Lever
by turning it a counter-clockwise a little. This
should allow you to move the slide around by
pivoting the handle of the Slide Guide up and
down and by pushing it in or pulling it out.
Experiment with focusing at different levels
in your specimen. Once you are comfortable with
this, turn the Aperture Disk to different settings
to find the one that gives you the best image. |
